Exploring the evolution of AI media tools
The landscape of artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming, with AI platforms becoming increasingly integral to the tech sector. In a recent development, Google has rebranded its AI platform Bard to ‘Gemini Advanced,’ introducing a suite of novel AI capabilities. The tech giant has further expanded its repertoire with the launch of ImageFX, a creative tool that empowers users to craft images from text descriptions, echoing the capabilities of Google Deepmind’s Imagen2 text-to-image model.
Google’s suite of AI tools, which now includes ImageFX, MusicFX, and TextFX, is undergoing continuous enhancement to provide users with a more robust creative experience.
Unleashing creativity with ImageFX
Positioned within Google’s experimental labs, ImageFX offers individuals the ability to generate visuals from simple text prompts. The service incorporates ‘expressive chips,’ which serve as a gateway to various artistic dimensions within a photograph.
ImageFX, which debuted last week, is a complimentary service currently accessible to users in select regions including the U.S., Kenya, New Zealand, and Australia. With these expressive chips, users can alter a ‘Photoreal’ image into various artistic styles such as ‘Hand drawn,’ ‘Abstract,’ or ‘Impressionist.’ ImageFX is poised to rival other AI-driven image generation services like Midjourney and OpenAI’s Dall-E.
The symphony of MusicFX
Concurrently, MusicFX, Google’s text-to-music experiment, now boasts the ability to create melodies up to 70 seconds in length. Users can manipulate expressive chips to fine-tune their musical pieces before downloading or sharing them. Google has also focused on improving the speed of music generation and the overall quality of the audio output.
MusicFX is designed to streamline the songwriting process, offering compositional suggestions and assisting with lyrics, thus serving as a creative partner for musicians.
TextLM: A boon for lyricists
TextLM, another generative AI tool tailored for lyricists and writers, is receiving updates to make it more user-friendly. To ensure easy recognition of content generated by MusicFX and ImageFX, a ‘SynthID’ digital watermark will be applied. Furthermore, images will include IPTC metadata to denote their AI-generated origins.
These innovative features are available for experimentation on Google’s labs website, which also provides access to an array of other AI tools. These include ‘search powered by generative AI,’ ‘NotebookLM,’ ‘Duet AI,’ ‘Help Me Script,’ ‘Poem Postcards,’ ‘Magic Editor,’ ‘Project IDX,’ ‘Magic Compose,’ and several others, offering a playground for creative minds to explore the possibilities of AI.
